The transition from primary school to secondary school is a big change and for many young people, the cause of much angst. In primary school, they have been the oldest, biggest, and most well-known students, contrasted with when they arrive in their new secondary school which is often much bigger, anonymous, and overwhelming.
Your teen has to adjust to a new school, make new friends and connections, get to the right classes on time, learn new things, and try to fit in AND keep their “cool”! It’s a lot!
Teaching your teenager about mindfulness, meditation, relaxation, and mantras is not difficult. It simply takes two willing parties and a little bit of time each day to master. When your young person feels competent to go it alone, you can be proud of the fact that you have equipped them with a lifelong skill that will help them manage stress and self-regulate their emotions.
A loving kindness meditation can help promote a sense of care and kindness in teens. Whilst a mindful mantra meditation can help them focus on something they want to achieve or affirm.
Sometimes the simple act of focusing on the breath and paying attention to the now is all that teens and young adults need to help them progress.
