Free meditation scripts for relaxation – the Breathing Calm meditation is a free download.
By focusing attention on the breath your child will try to exclude all other distractions. It is normal for their mind to wander off to other thoughts or sounds. When this happens, gently remind them to bring their thoughts back to the sensations of their breath. Perhaps get your child to visualise their chest rising and falling with their breath. Have them repeat silently on exhalation the words – “I am calm”. Encourage your child to feel their body relaxing as they continue to breathe deeply repeating the words “I am calm”. Remember to draw your child back to how their body and emotions are feeling as a result of them focusing on the breath.
This is a simple and effective breathing technique to soothe and support your child when they feel stressed and anxious. It can be used at any time as a way of cultivating a healthy habit that can be remembered and used in times of stress or when feeling out of control.
