Grounded Kids!

A grounded child has a power that shines through in the way they relate to others and in how they navigate all of life’s challenges.

A grounded child has a certain balance or inner strength that will become their greatest asset as they grow into their adult self.

With anxiety on the rise we need to find ways to support our children in learning how to ground, and how to self-regulate and self-soothe.  So how do we teach a child to be grounded?

Some children seem to instinctively know what it means and can connect in to this inner source of power… they do have the ability to be grounded, and it can simply be a case of naming it for them and describing it so they have a clearer understanding of what it is.

The best way to do this is to tap into what it feels like to be grounded for yourself.

When we role model this grounded state, the flow on to our kids is incredible.  The energy in a tense room can immediately shift if we make a conscious effort to breathe, ground and let life flow.

It really is as simple as that and then your children will follow suit and learn the incredible ability to be grounded in all kinds of challenging situations.

Here is one way to become more grounded:

Breathe…as much as possible allow yourself to slow down… connect in with your senses, what do you feel with your sense of touch, really feel the ground beneath you… what can you see, smell, taste…and really listen… Paying attention to the sensations in your body can be a wonderful way to shift out of a unpleasant state to a more balanced present state.

I often find myself doing this when a potentially explosive situation is about to happen with one or both of my children (and of course many times I don’t and said potentially explosive situation does indeed eventuate!!!).  When I do stop and ground however, I can really feel the shift and a peaceful resolution can be found.

I do hope this is helpful and head over to the Shop page for Grounding meditations for your kids and yourself (any of them really – they all have elements of grounding in them!)

With much love,
Jules
